By the time Sarah returned to the clean up on the bridge, her two friends were helping the passengers from the bus, making sure they had all their possessions (and wits) on them. She was now wearing the jogging outfit that she kept in her car’s trunk. It had been a very near thing in this regard, too. She had run in the opposite direction of her friends and car, and then – when no one had been looking (she hoped) – she had used her awesomely powered legs to leap down to the grassy area between the busy freeways below. A split-second afterwards, Sarah had bunched her legs up again and had leapt back up to a point on the bridge just behind her Toyota. It had then been a relatively easy (in comparison to the last ten minutes) affair to climb into the back seat of her car, transform back to her human form, and tug on the sweats, T-shirt, and running shoes. She then exited and ran back towards the saved bus. “Hey guys!”, she called out. Dana turned around. “Sarah, we’re have you been? That green superwoman said that you were over here helping these people out. But when we got here, you were nowhere to be found.” She then took a closer look in the direction of her sister. “And you’re changed clothes, I see.” Sarah gave Dana a sheepish smile, gesturing with a hand back in the direction of her Corolla. “Yeah. I thought these clothes would be better to work in than a dress outfit, and I just happen to carry a spare change of clothing around with me.” ‘Though not for the reasons you might think.’, she thought to herself. Or would Dana guess the real reason? Sarah was still unsure as to just how much her adopted sister actually knew. Was she playing it dumb for Sarah and Andrew’s sakes? Or did she truly not know of Sarah’s alter identity? That would have to be addressed later, as this was not time to get into it. “I was back at one of the other accidents at the bequest of some of the medical personnel to help them out with a case. How’s everything going here?” Dana noticed the subtle shift of the conversation away from her original question. But Andrew obviously didn’t. “It’s going great, Sarah. Jane got here just in time! If it hadn’t been for her, all of these people would probably not be here now. Did you see her? She took off in a flash!” Sarah shook her head. “No, I missed her. But from what I’ve heard from these people and some of the medical and police units, Jane is being very well received. I’m glad, too, that she was able to help everyone out.” In fact, Sarah was again rethinking her entire position on her abilities. She had told Xris that she wouldn’t go on being a “heroine” anymore, and she still felt that way - - somewhat. But there also was the fact that, if she hadn’t lost control and transformed into that form, all of these people probably would have died. That was a powerful truth, indeed. ‘This is becoming more and more confusing. These two lives I lead - - they’re increasingly conflicting with each other. I really need some more time to think all this through. But, once again, that will have to wait ‘till later. I’ve got more pressing matters to attend to as of now.’ Sarah glanced back over to Dana, who was eyeing her strangely. ‘Does she know??’ That question came to the journalist’s mind almost every time she looked at her sister. It was beginning to become very annoying and distracting. This was another thing she decided needed to be cleared up. “What is it, Dana?” “Hmm? Oh, nothing, nothing. Just doing a bit of unmannerly staring while I was thinking, that’s all.” Dana looked away, focusing her attention on the ongoing recovery operations going on all around them. “I think it’s best if we leave. We’ve done all we can, and we’re just in these rescue units way.” Andrew nodded in agreement. “I agree. Sarah, are you ready to go?” She nodded, and the three friends began walking back to her dark-blue Corolla. She paused for a moment and examined the damage on the passenger’s side; several long streaks of dull metal showed where the paint had been scraped off during contact with the transit bus. There was also a little crumpling around the front wheel well, but nothing overly bad – mostly cosmetic. The three piled in and Sarah slowly pulled away from the accident scene, through the hastily set police line, and onto the other side of the bridge. “Hey, do either one of you mind f we just skipped dinner tonight?”, Andrew asked. “It’s getting kind of late, and Sarah and I have to be in to work pretty early.” His fellow journalist silently thanked him; this was just what she needed. “You’re right, Andy. I’m sorry that this day didn’t turn out the way we were hoping.” “That’s quite all right, Sarah.”, Andrew returned. “Who would’ve thought that we would have been first-hand witnesses – and almost victims, if it weren’t for your great driving – to the worst accident that I, at least, have ever seen? Please, d – don’t worry about it at all. We’ll just have to get together another time, is all.” Dana placed a hand over Andrew’s shoulder from her backseat position. “It might be a while before we can, Andrew. I’ve got a plane to catch tomorrow afternoon, headed back to Seattle.” Sarah gave her sister a quick but shocked glance. “Tomorrow? You’re leaving so soon? But we hardly got to do anything together.” Dana smiled, a bit of wistfulness interlaced with her expression. “I know, but I have my own family to get back to. My husband is probably wondering if I’ve decided just to move here permanently or something by now. But don’t worry your head about it; I’ll be back before you know it – probably before you’re ready for it, too. I promise.” The friends didn’t say another word all the way back to Andrew’s apartment. Sarah’s Corolla pulled up into a visitor’s parking space to let him out. As he was getting out, Dana offered to walk him up to his apartment to say her last goodbyes. Sarah remained in her car with her thoughts as her two friends walked inside the complex. It had seemed like her sister had just arrived, and now she was already leaving. So much had happened since last Thursday. Almost nothing had gone right. Oh, things had started out just fine, but, almost without exception, they had degenerated into one mess after another. The one light of hope that continued to shine through it all was her love for Andrew. That singular aspect of her life seemed to make the all the rest worth it. She would make this night up to him – and in a way that he would never expect…….. “Thanks for walking with me, Dana.” The woman smiled. “Not a problem at all for a friend, Andrew. You know, I might be out-of-line by saying this, but my sister can be a little - - hesitant, shall we say, in some matters.” Andrew paused, his keys halfway dangling from his front door. “By all means, please go on.” ‘I hope I’m doing the right thing.’, Dana thought. “Sarah really does love you. Every time we talk about the subject, she can’t speak of anyone else but you. You’ve really made an impression on her, Andrew. But she’s afraid. Afraid that you won’t respond to her advances, her flirtations. She can sense that you do care for her…..she’s just not sure how far that caring goes.” She laughed nervously. “I don’t know why I’m even telling you this, ‘cause I promised her that I wouldn’t say anything about it to you. But I can’t remain quiet - - she’s my sister, you know? We may not be physically related, but the bond is the same. I’d hate to see her be so close to achieving something she’s wanted for a long time, just to quit right before obtaining it.” Andrew Peters was quite for several seconds as his mind raced. This was definitely unexpected. ‘I didn’t know she cared that much for me. Could - - Could it actually work out between us? Could she be able to look beyond my limitations to love the real me? And what about Jane? She’s already told me she loves me, too. I don’t know what it is about her - - she reminds me so much of Sarah, only a stronger, more outwardly supportive Sarah. What would I tell her?’ He finished unlocking his door and opened it, not looking back at Dana. He was afraid that she would see the fierce war that he was fighting emotionally. “Thanks for – telling me, Dana. Well, h – have a good trip back to Seattle.” And then he closed the door behind him. ‘Now THAT was odd…..’, she mused. Taking one last glance back at the closed door, Dana walked back down the stairs and out of the apartment unit. She slid into the front passenger’s seat of her sister’s little Toyota, and the two women drove from the complex. As it had been before the short stop, silence reigned supreme within the car’s frame, save for the motor’s rumbling. Each was caught up in her own thoughts, and didn’t want to share them with the other. This was actually preferable, though; the thoughts flowing within each other’s brain were better left concealed and analyzed without being submitted verbally. They reached Sarah’s own apartment just as the sun was sliding behind the mountains in the distance. They entered her apartment – Sarah walking into her bedroom to change out of her jogging outfit, and Dana to start packing up everything that wasn’t needed in the last day of her visit. Still, no words were spoken by either woman. Finally, as Sarah was coming out of her bedroom, dressed in a T-shirt and denim shorts, Dana broke the stillness. “Sarah, have I done or said something that made you mad with me or something? You haven’t said a single word since leaving Andrew’s apartment, and I’m worried that it might be something I’ve done.” Sarah shook her head, sitting down on the couch, watching her surrogate sister pack her things into her various bags. “Don’t worry, Dana, it’s nothing about you. I - - - I’ve just got a lot on my mind, that’s all.” Dana stopped packing and pushed her curved, lean form from her seat on the floor up to the cushion next to Sarah. “Is it anything that you’d like to talk to me about?” She eyed Sarah a little more closely. “I wonder…. Do these disturbing thoughts of yours have anything to do with the secret you’ve been holding out on everyone?” Once again, Dana’s words created a sense of uneasiness within Sarah. Should she go ahead and reveal her other self? If Dana already knew, what would it hurt? Maybe it would even make her feel better, telling and showing another person her other identity – her other life. Sarah nodded. “Yes….. This has been hanging heavy over my life for a long time, Dana. I didn’t want to talk about this with anyone else, because of - - well, I have my reasons. But I think you do deserve an explanation. For being such a good sister to me.” She smiled at Dana. “Just wait right here for a second, and I’ll be right back and explain everything.” She stood up and walked back to her bedroom. Five minutes later she came back out, and Dana’s brow wrinkled with confusion, plus an added bit of humor. “What is that, Sarah?” Her sister had come back out, having changed clothes once again. This time, however, she was wearing what appeared to be a leotard of some sort. It was made up of a glistening black fabric, the likes of which Dana couldn’t remember seeing anywhere before. It fit the curves of her body like a glove, shifting with each subtle movement of Sarah’s body. The material was mostly around her torso, with a small dip going down between her breasts, but leaving plenty to preserve her modesty. It left her arms and legs bare, and reminded Dana of nothing more than an exercise suit. But there was something hauntingly familiar about it - - as if she had seen it somewhere before. “It looks like something out of ‘Fame’ or something. Sarah smiled, sitting back down beside Dana. “Oh, there a bit more to it than that.” She then closed her eyes, regulating her breathing, and concentrated. The journalist focused on the transformation – and hope that she was indeed doing the right thing. “Sarah, what in the world are – you - - “ Words suddenly failed Dana for the first time in her life. As she watched her sister, the younger woman suddenly began to shift on the cushion she sat upon. Except that she wasn’t moving; her chest rising and falling in heavier motions was the only thing physically moving on Sarah’s body, but that same body was moving. Dana looked on with a growing sense of wonderment, which, in turn, was turning into fear as she realized just what was happening to her sister. It was her body – that was what was changing! Her skin was quickly altering hues; it was no longer the lightly tanned pigment it had been a few seconds ago. A rich green color was now rapidly spreading throughout Sarah’s form. “God, Sarah….”, Dana breathed. “What’s happening to you?” Not only was Sarah becoming green, she was also becoming larger, as well! Dana’s left hand came up to her open mouth as she witnessed her sister’s frame swelling in size and shape. Her previously thin muscles were rapidly expanding, developing into thicker versions of their previous selves, and managing to retain their feminine appearance throughout. Her whole body was also getting taller, her legs lengthening, pushing her swelling, firming posterior into the seat of the couch. Her arms, too, were gaining length and strength in every second that passed. Her dark-blonde, shoulder-length hair was now a much more wild mess of dark curls; a very dark shade of green was also making its way through those thick, elongating strands. Dana looked briefly at the other woman’s chest, and was amazed to see that the shiny ebony fabric was not only still intact, but was stretching with Sarah’s growing body. The mounds of her breasts were enlarging with the rest of her, giving that section of her outfit more and more curviness that was lacking before. Where the small dip had been before, now Dana could see a rapidly growing cleft between Sarah’s emerald breasts as the fabric stretched sideways, allowing more of them to bee seen then before. Suddenly Dana felt something pushing against her left foot. She tore her eyes from Sarah’s expanding form to find out what was causing the sensation. It turned out to be the toes of her sister’s own left foot pressing more and more into the side of Dana’s flat dress sandal. Their rich green forms thickened with increasing size, stretching to touch the black leather and bare skin of Dana’s sandaled foot. Sarah’s calves and thighs were much more curvaceous now, all the added size, muscle, and pure sexiness adding up to the best pair of legs that she had ever seen. As she watched, the green toes and foot ceased their encroachment, and she heard Sarah give out a loud, relieved-sounding sigh. Dana slowly looked up her sister’s tall, well-built (and shaped), green-skinned form and looked into her eyes. There, too, the sudden and unexpected transformation was displaying it’s alterations upon her sister’s body. The blue-gray color of Sarah’s eyes were gone, replaced by a medium shade of green, darker than her skin, but somewhat lighter than the color of her lips. “Well, Dana, here I am.” Sarah’s voice had also changed, from light tones into husky, deeper ones. “B – B But I thought - - This wasn’t - - Oh, my GOD!!” ‘She didn’t know…..’ Sarah had guessed wrong, and now she was witnessing the aftermath of her poor judgment. “It’s okay, Dana! It’s still me, Sarah! I just look a bit - - different.” “Different?! DIFFERENT??! My God, Sarah, you’re GREEN!!” A sudden thought struck her, and she breathed in a quick breath of recognition. “You’re that superwoman that saved the bus - - the one that’s been in the papers!!” Sarah nodded, a look of concern starting to creep onto her strong, gorgeous face. “You mean, you didn’t know?” Dana shook her head, still unable to look away from Sarah. “But I thought you knew! You said you knew about my secret, and I wanted to show it to you so that you wouldn’t think I didn’t trust you.” Dana gazed at her sister in awe and amazement. “Sarah, I meant the ‘other’ secret you were keeping: the one about working with the government to uncover that crime ring. I had no idea about - - this!” She gestured at Sarah’s Gammonian body. “How long have you been like this?” “As far as I know, all my life. But I haven’t been doing this for too long. Dana, I’m so sorry. I thought you knew…. I wouldn’t have done this if I had known otherwise.” Dana tentatively reached out and took one of Sarah’s large, strong green hands into her smaller one, clasping her other on top of it. “Don’t be, Sarah. I’m over it now. I just – I mean, I would never have thought that my little sister would have been the one to be this heroine character! But I am very glad that you told and, umm, showed me. It really does mean a lot to me. Thank you.” She leaned over and gently embraced Sarah, still a bit amazed at just how large and tall she had grown to be. She felt her surrogate sister’s arms and hands wrapping around her own upper body. “I still love you, Sarah. Nothing can change that.” They parted, both smiling and almost in tears. Sarah wiped the back of her hand against her eyes. “Hey, what did you mean by ‘working for the government’? I haven’t been doing anything with them, especially for a spy ring.” “Well, these two women met me in the mall while you were gone, and they told me all about this project you were supposedly working on. To be honest, I didn’t really believe them, but they seemed so sincere. Like they believed what they were saying.” “I don’t have a clue as to what you’re talking about, Dana.”, Sarah responded. “Do you know where these two women are right now?” “They took me to a hotel room yesterday, but I don’t know if they’re still there or not. They seemed very interested and concerned for your well-being, though. That’s what eventually won me over in believing their story. What are you going to do about it?” Sarah gently shook her head, feeling her long, dark-green hair moving about her shoulders and arms. “I don’t know if there is much I can do, Dana, until I see them face-to-face. Then…..” She stopped, looking her sister right in the eyes. “Then I think they will have some explaining to do.” To be continued Terry |
