Note: For many writers, ending a story seems the most difficult part of telling a story. Others struggle with the middle of the story. Still others find it hard (pun intended, of course, since my topic is erotic fiction) to write the beginning of a story. This article is for the last group of writers. (For those who are interested in some tips as to how to close out, or end, a story, my essay "The Working Backward Heuristic," offers advice that some writers have found helpful). Needless to say, anyone who cares to use one (or more, or all) of the following "openers" to begin a story is free to do so; they're my contributions to the cause. In fact, don't be too surprised if you see one of them under my own byline someday! (As a bonus, I've suggested a category, a title, and a tagline for each opener, but these are mere suggestions and can be accepted or rejected, as the writer prefers.)

* * *

1

Short on cash this year, I decided to give my boyfriend Theo a gift certificate instead of an actual present for Valentine's Day--a handmade gift certificate, redeemable on or after February 14, for the sex act of his choice. (I figured he'd want to cash it in for anal intercourse, and I was right.)

(Suggested category: anal; suggested title: "Heart's Desire"; suggested tagline: "His choice would have made Cupid blush!")

Sarah Owens had tried on one of the dozen outfits in Gail Drake's collection of erotic animal costumes, and she wanted to don each of the eleven others. She'd impersonated a puppy--if such a word could be used in reference to imitating an animal--but there were plenty of other skins, as it were, in Gail's menagerie that Sarah could wear, among them those of a gorilla, a wildebeest, and a warthog, and the blonde college coed wanted to wear all of them. She also hoped to be able to service Gail orally again, as she had during their first encounter. Of course, Sarah would be of assistance to Gail in other ways, too, if the redhead demanded it.

(Suggested category: BDSM; suggested title: "Animal Passions," suggested tagline: "If the paw fits. . . .")

(Note: These stories could be installments to follow my own original short story about Sarah, "A Tale of a Tail.")

It's been my curse--and my blessing--to have lived or worked in an all-male total institution of one kind or another since my earliest days, when I lived abroad in a boys' school, to today, as I proudly serve my country as a member of the United States Marine Corps. Along the way, I've known a few good men. Let me tell you about one of them, a fellow squad member, named Private Barry Baxter. The other guys call him "Fairy the Bastard," but I know him as my Butt-Fuck Buddy.

(Suggested category: gay male; suggested title: "Sic Semper Fidelis"; suggested tagline: "He sure makes me stand at attention!"

4

My older brother is a mechanical engineer. He's also an inventor. One day, jokingly, I'd said to him, "Johnny, you should put your knowledge and expertise to good use and help us ladies by inventing the perfect fucking machine." Looking at me lasciviously, he'd replied, "To do that, sis, I'd need an assistant--a female assistant--to test various designs and models, and--." "Why not use me?" I'd volunteered, and, right then and there, we'd formed a partnership with one another--a working partnership, I guess you'd say--and set out, in earnest, to invent the world's best fucking machine.

(Suggested category: incest/taboo; suggested title: "Patent Pending"; suggested tagline: "Batteries not included.")

5

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., dreamed of racial equality during a time in which, as he said, "little black boys. . . will be able to join hands with little white. . . girls and walk together as sisters and brothers." As a brother, I'm doing my part to make Dr. King's dream come true (well, except for that "sisters and brothers part"), let me tell you!

(Suggested category: either incest/taboo or interracial love; suggested title: "Living the Dream"; suggested tagline: "No wonder they named a holiday after him!")

6

Last year, I had the pleasure of visiting the island of Lesbos, where the ancient Greek poet Sappho lived, and, now, I'm proud to tell everybody I'm a Lesbian, too!

(Suggested category: lesbian sex; suggested title: "Traveler's Paradise"; suggested tagline: "Visiting the Aegean.")

7

When my hubby, Dr. Phillip Palmer, invented the world's first time machine, back in 2328, I insisted upon joining the team of scientists whom the University of the World was blasting into the past to study the history, societies, cultures, and lives of earlier civilizations. I have neither academic credentials nor any interest whatsoever in history, anthropology, archaeology, sociology, art, psychology, or any such claptrap. I wanted to go along for the ride, so to speak, for one reason, and one reason only: I wanted to know what men like Julius Caesar, Alexander the Great, Attila the Hun, Genghis Khan, Napoleon Bonaparte, and George S. Patton were like off the battlefield, if you know what I mean.

(Suggested category: sci fi & fantasy; suggested title: "History Lessons"; suggested tagline: "Some things are worth repeating.")

8

Kevin told me he didn't mind dating a "chick with a dick." I told him he could kiss my "shemale" ass. He did, and we've been together ever since. He's still pretty much politically incorrect where transgender topics are concerned and rougher than most men around the edges tend to be, but he's a hell of a lover, so I haven't thrown him back--not yet, at least.

(Suggested category: transsexuals & crossdressers; suggested title: "A Keeper?"; suggested tagline: "He's rude, crude--and deliciously lewd!")
