Because women are physically weaker than men, they are subject to men; to gain a measure of equality, they must act through men; to act through men, they must control men. They control men through men's desire for sex. Sex is a means of controlling another (or others), especially for those who otherwise lack strength or power.

For men, sex is often an end unto itself, whereas, for women, sex is usually a means to the end of indirect autonomy. Women, in short, use men as the instruments of their will, the way that men use machines to empower themselves.

Men are the machines of women, the engines of their empowerment, the instruments by which they activate, direct, and accomplish their will. (Homosexual men are controlled by [or control] other men, not women; homosexual women are controlled by [or control] other women, not men; bisexuals are controlled by [or control] either or both sexes--however, although they thereby multiply their potential power, they also risk greater conflict than do exclusively heterosexual or homosexual individuals. Transsexuals, it seems, are somewhere between the extremes of hetero- and homosexuality and control or are controlled accordingly.)

What happens in private doesn't matter; what matters is what happens in public. Therefore, traditionally, women were given power over the affairs of the heart and the home, whereas men reserved for themselves the privilege of exercising power in the political and economic realms of public life. At home, women were sovereign; everywhere else, men ruled.

Now, however, women have been permitted to enter the public realm and to act as men act, which is to say, to "be" politicians, corporate executives, and leaders in other walks of life. They have been granted, in principle if not yet in actuality, political and social equality.

Men's reaction to this change has been to treat women as such. Rather than to enact the traditional roles of protector, provider, rescuer, and wooer, men are now concerned only with using women as sexual objects, afterward abandoning them, even if the women have been impregnated as a result of the couple's coupling. Flirting has replaced courtship, as the one-night stand has replaced marriage. Homes, once the provinces--indeed, the dominions--of women, are "broken"; their walls lie about in tumbled ruins, and children, abandoned by their fathers, suffer in single-parent (that is, single mother) apartments, surviving as best they can.

Once, sexuality was women's entire arsenal for attaining a measure of autonomy by controlling men and acting through them to effect, as much as possible, their own wills. Sex, for women, was the currency of power. Now that they are granted political and social power, they do not dispense with the power of their sexuality--or, at least, the younger ones among them do not--for their sexuality makes them desirable to men.

Even if they no longer need to control men sexually, women enjoy the attention they gain from being seen as sexually desirable by men (that is, as "beautiful"). Being desirable is itself a form of power: the power to allure, to captivate, to enthrall. To catch is to control or, at least, to put a man in a position wherein he may be controlled. It also feeds one's vanity, of course, for which reason alone, even if "beauty" (that is, sexual desirability) were not also a sort of power in and of itself, few, if any, women would abandon. Sexual desirability gives women an edge in the eternal battle of the sexes.

But men also have an edge. They have superior physical strength, which means that the political and social power that women enjoy is theirs to enjoy solely because men willingly consent among themselves to share this power with women. A large part of the reason that men do so is doubtlessly the appeal of women's "beauty," or sexual desirability. To gain sex, they share power, just as, to gain power, women share sex. If women represent beauty, men represent strength, or power; to enjoy one, each must share the other. Thus, sex and power are nature's way of balancing the needs of both sexes.

As more women accept the power men offer them, playing roles that were previously reserved for men, it seems likely that the lines between male and female and between masculine and feminine will blur and, as a consequence, homosexuality will increase among both sexes. The final result may be a bisexual--or, rather, a pansexual--society in which sexual relations between consenting adults of any sex or gender is accepted as normal and appropriate, so that two men or two women holding hands or kissing in public would seem--or indeed, be-- no more unusual than such the holding of hands or a kiss between a man and a woman would be.

Perhaps, one day, public and private spheres of life will also dissolve, so that seeing any combination of sexes and genders fornicating anywhere, at any time, would also be an ordinary, rather than a scandalous, sight and The Beatles' question, "Why don't we do it in the road?" a prophetic and rhetorical one. When differences disappear, one thing (or sex) is as good as another, after all. Whether one considers such a change to be good or bad depends upon how far along the continuum of bisexuality he or she happens to be. Of course, as with any prediction, my pansexual prophecy could be wrong, which is to say that the forces which are currently directing society toward a unisexual-pansexual world or political, social, and sexual sameness could go awry. It could be reversed or otherwise change direction. However, if it stays on the course upon which it has been set, largely by modern feminists, my prediction appears likely, indeed.

Male, female, or shemale, you might want to put in a supply of condoms. You'll want to be ready, should anyone and everyone of legal age become a possible one-night stand. After all, to paraphrase Woody Allen, being pansexual more than doubles your chance for a date on Saturday night!
