So I like the cuckold angst, which is great jerk-off material, but far too often the stories are too dark. The wife goes completely off the rails, breaks all the rules they've set up and humiliates him over and over. And he just takes it. Book ends with something like "and I knew it was just going to get worse from here."

The last two novels in Pete Andrews' Faithfull Wife's Fall from Grace series are about this too. He bolts/hates her, she cries, shit happens.
I enjoy that balance. Either they get divorced (he gets to say have his say to her at least), or they reconcile, or something. He needs to be active.
There's a whole genre of stories on literotica in a category called Unwilling Cuckold or something that in theory covers this but almost all of these are just sexless male power trips. Wife states she wants to cuck husband, he says hey he'll sleep with the babysitter who has made it clear she's willing, divorces her and she dies penniless. Power fantasies. I'm looking for proper cuck stories where he's mistreated by wife but then he takes action.
