Looking for The Bet chapter 13 & 14 by Rabblelaid

The character I disliked the most was Leah. Zane and Claire are obvious and cartoonish, but Leah is inconsistent, almost bipolar but defiintely martian-slut-ray. It would have been so satisfying if this revitalized man had confronted her about "the incident" and said "get out." Just, confirm what he was told and tell her to get out, Instead he fucks her. Guess there were no other character that would have been a better choice to help him.

I don't really understand this type of story and it's been pretty popular for a few years now. Like Toxic Attraction and a lot of these cuckold and ntr stories, I don't understand what the villains get out these stories... there's no joy for any of the characters. no winners, all losers. like what's their end goal? ruining a marriage? "Congrats, you broke up a marriage. You've won a gullible and naive affair partner that is a cruel proven cheater. Don't want to keep her? Your bonus prize is at least two more people that probably want revenge on you. Years of looking over your shoulder for danger."

I'm not going to read this series and based on this being "the happy ending", I'm glad I didn't. As an avid reader of relationship dramas, this chapter was "alright". The husband woke but but it wasn't as satisfying as a BTB or revenge story. At least Dan takes a stand and survives the horrible people he's surrounded by, including Leah.

There were a couple of lost opportunities though:
1. Dan runs into Zane and Clare at the end. Have a final final confrontation to reinforce the new Dan. wrap things up so he can be assured there won't be a sequel.
2. post-cruise meeting with Leah where he learns how his resistance ruined Zane and Clare's plans and rendered zane virtually impotent.
3. kicking the shit out of zane after he threw the first punch
4. kicking leah to the curb, acknowledge the college crush but point out that is gone because of how "ugly" her actions have made her...
5. get rid of the breeding scenario. wasn't needed. we already know leah her husband are bent.
6. acknowledge that leah's truth has squashed the college crush he had on her.
7. record the conversation with Zane and publish it online to tarnish his street cred.

I'd rate this as average for a relationship drama. Getting revenge on Claire and Zane would have made it a 4-star story, 5 if Dan had been a stronger character in a dramatic fashion, completely walking away from that scene.

I think judging the ending without reading most of the story does a disservice to both the reader and author. It's just completely different having more background information and expectations.

For sure, I can't comment on the entire story and I am missing a lot of context. From the bits of backstory granted or teased in this chapter, it looked like another long story about a marriage falling apart because of a sexual adventure gone wrong with a creep. A 'Neighbor Chronicles' with an ending or a more aggressive Toxic Attraction. I'm glad I didn't read the 250,000 word series because the overall story wasn't what I'd have enjoyed; I'm glad I read this chapter to get a taste of the larger story and the writer's skill.

Option B was engaging, I only planned to skim it and it sucked me in. For a breakup/revenge/divorce alternate version it was ok. It's very difficult for stories involving a divorce between the two main characters to have a satisfactory ending.

That is a very similar story. The wife in the Bet was more developed at first, what's odd is that she's really the main character. I think there's more time spent in her POV than anyone else but by the end she's not even acting like a human being anymore. Both ending options paint her as insane and lacking any sense even for her own wellbeing.

I just read the epilogue and I think Claire needs some professional help. She's a wounded feral cat.

"Well, I see you haven't grown and changed that much if you lose your shit over a business card. Good luck with your life. I'll say hi to Zane for you."

Zane continuing to breath is the only down side to this ending. one of these husbands will rectify that.
