Unfortunately, these low-res pdfs are generally the best quality available: they are the sources files for all the others, so most often the re-encode are actually a degraded version of the old low-res files.Thx wivers - think I replaced the old low-res PDF somewhen...
Even if their resolution is said to be higher, such as 1280x1800 for exemple, they are actually "fake" upscale of low-res files, bloated-out to look as if they are higher quality, but all you get is a pixelated mess that fakes high resolution. It's better to have the non-pixelated smaller image generally. Then you can use post-processing from rendering software to improve the display, or use actually good upscaling algorythm (or AI) to make sure you don't have artifacts or pixelated crap instead of a high-res, sharp picture.
I'm ranting a bit, but these "upscales" are everywhere, and they are awful imo.
