An FYI for Sexy Neighbor Natasha

The copy being floated around the various websites is missing some of the author's emphasis (italic text). If a full paragraph is in italics, there is a good chance the italic text has been retained. If one or more words within a paragraph were originally in italics, they are in plain text in the copy provided by the OP and elsewhere.

Some people won't have an issue with this, but I am someone who likes seeing the author's italic and bolded text. Hopefully someone down the line will produce a copy with the proper emphasized text by the author.

I've noticed that formatting issues like that tend to happen if at some point the book was in PDF format, and then converted to something else.

Typically authors use italics to indicate internal dialog, that is something their thinking and not speaking.

Sometimes an entire paragraph is in italics and you'll see the phrase "she/he thought" which clearly should not be italicized.

Another issue that happens with converting from a PDF is that a page ending in the PDF is treated like a paragraph break in the converted document. So you'll see text that is the continuation of a previous sentence in a new paragraph.

Yep, I've seen that too. Also, where there should be one paragraph of italics, there ends up two consecutive paragraphs of italics, meaning one paragraph has been improperly labeled.

Sadly, not all books have samples online to determine if this might happen. My rule of thumb is if the eBook has zero instances of single words or phrases in italics within a paragraph, I question the conversion, especially if the author is known to use italics and bold texting within their books.

EDIT:

I've copied just the story text from Zoboko for Sexy Neighbor Natasha into a Word document. Assuming I performed the copy correctly, there are 155 instances of italic text (not complete paragraphs) which are tagged as plain text in the known eBook copies. Of the 10 paragraphs tagged as all italics in those copies, only six should be all italics. The other four fall under the condition described by O_P_T above.

I would be happy to provide the story text to anyone who wants it. Please note that I made a few edits, like changing space/dash/space to an em-dash, space/dash/close-quote to an em-dash/close-quote, and converting to smart punctuation. Those can easily be converted back to their originals. My normal process of performing a spell-check I did not do with my copy.

If it were a handful of differences with the italic text, I could edit an EPUB manually in Calibre. But at nearly 160 changes, I lack the skill to do it efficiently.

My apologies for belaboring this issue.
You can convert to docx format using Calibre.

If the original epub/mobi/azw file is "original", then the converted file will have all the italicized/bolded text correct.

These will show up as two different styles in the Word document.

If the whole paragraph has that formatting, then it will be "Para xx" where xx is a number.

If it is just text within a paragraph, it will be "xx text", where again xx is a number.

A sure sign that the copy CalebFleming posted has been through some conversions is the multiple cover art images in the document. If it is "virgin", you only have one, and that's on the first page of the docx file.

The only italicized stuff I see in the Calibre converted file is full paragraphs (style para 02) and some of them are of the type that includes a "he/she" thought" type phrase.

It didn't have the individual words Fran178 pointed out.

Interesting.

I just went to Zoboko to see their version

If you read it online, the italicizing of the word "hot" is there in the 5th paragraph.

But if you download the epub or PDF, it's not there.
