Zoboko

Has anyone found the solution of the black bar bug? It's happening for almost all the new books added to the portal since about a month now.

I've tried using Chrome, Edge, and Tor the first two with and without add blockers and have had no success.

I also tried a VPN to appear to be in a few different countries..

What's strange, is that most of these books have a non zero value for the # of times they've been downloaded, assuming that is an accurate count.

I've also tried to read on line and that stated there was an error.

As I said previously, the problem went away so hopefully they'll fix it again.

Just to add, I use Mozilla Firefox, and it doesn't work on that as well.

About online reading, it actually works for some books but doesn't for others. And in case of some, the starting some pages work, but then there is an error.
 
I came across something weird. I was looking for a way to download books from everand.com and found an online converter/downloader.
I gave it a shot, and at first it seemed to work, but then i was suddenly looking at a Zoboko page for the book i tried to download.

But the thing is, the book was not available on Zoboko before i tried to download it. I ADDED a book to Zoboko.

This would have been great, but the Black Bar issue is preventing me from downloading it, as usual.
I did open the newly added book through the online reader, and while the formatting is totally messed up, the book is there.
I tried with a few more books, just to be sure.

Could it be that this is how books find their way onto Zoboko?

Well it seemed to working better today. I was able to download over 10 books. However, I couldn't download PDF's. I got a few 3 Kb epubs, so I tried the PDF instead. and it wouldn't download.
 
I was able to download some books, but then i tried my trick from earlier in the thread to add books to Zoboko, and now that doesn't seem to work anymore.
 
Seems better today. was able to get PDF's. It still fails to download initially, but if I resume the download it works

Tedious, but it truly is the only way to preserve any text modifications (italic, bold, bold-italic, underline, etc.) in the original book. As I mentioned previously in this thread, the converter Zoboko uses to create EPUBs and PDFs mangles those text modifications.

If the original book has none of these, then the converter generally works fine. But if it has any text modifications, it's almost certain the converter won't handle them properly and change the text emphasis to plain text. One of my few OCDs about eBooks is the loss of the author's text modifications, and Zoboko's EPUB/PDF converter can be brutally bad at this.

Downloading the individual chapters as HTML will keep the proper text tagging, but even the HTML can be a bit ugly. Plus there's the work of creating an EPUB/PDF from the individual chapters.

You don't always get the full text when you do the chapter thing.

Also, I've noticed a few books had the black bar bug, but when I went back and tried later, I could download it. Seems kinda random, since not all books I had an issue with worked the second, third, etc. time.

Also, downloading PDF's now works the first time for me.

While I don't download a lot from Zoboko, I have never encountered the situation you mentioned.

I would love to have a link to a book there that does this and see if I can repeat the problem.
