I was going to link the amazon page, but they removed her. They really don't like incest/taboo for as much as they sell books. Supposedly she is going to get them on eden books, but i couldn't find her.

Anyways. Most of the books have a taboo/incest aspect to it that i see.

I also couldn't find the exact series order for some of the books. If i took the time i'm sure i could cut the size of some books to half as images are duplicated. But that's for another day.

Contemporary?

I find this genre description troublesome and I've waffled back and forth between completely deleting it and using it. And having recently started working on a trove of books, I'm back to thinking of it as a worthless genre description.
And I'd like to know why you used in the thread title so maybe I can get a better grasp of it.

My understanding of it is supposedly it is defined as modern, but I've seen it applied to stories all the way back to the end of World War 2
But for the sake of discussion let's just pretend it has only been used back to the 1970s following the Vietnam War.
What does today's definition of modern have to do with a pre-computer, pre-cellphone era
Just as how can you compare the early computing days to the Social Media era of today - In the early computing days the Mainstream Media was the major source of Commentary, and now it's X, and tictoc, and ..

So could I get other definitions of Contemporary?

I copied the genres from Briar's profile on goodreads.

According to Goodreads, it's mostly modern day... So just assume technology and references in the 2000-2022 ranges to match up.

But that's my point exactly! And Goodread's definition is actually the reason I first started questioning it.

You pick up a book and it's described as contemporary, and you assume it's modern day
But then discover it's taking place in the period of desegregation, and no environmental concerns beyond Woodsy Owl's 'Give a Hoot and Don't Pollute!'. Oh and by the way a Woman's place is still in the Kitchen, and unless you're in California don't even think about coming out of the closet. And being a member of a forum like this one just might land you in the local penitentiary for indecency.

I'm sorry if my age is speaking here but it just seems to me to be a nonsense genre description. And I am glad to have a discussion about it, and just maybe be convinced it's not.

Hmmm... Not sure i could really care about books going that far back pre 1950's. Can't say i'm up for Anne of Greene Gables, Little Women, Tom Sawyer, nor Marry Poppins or earlier.

Hmmm... If you had to define ranges, i'd probably put

Dark ages (knights, armor age, but quite dirty, because yeah...)
Fantasy (Dark ages plus magic, and probably a lot better hygiene)
Early industrial (1700-1900, steam engines and trains)
Mid 1900's (1920-1960, semi-widespread electricity, microwaves, electric lights and heating, vehicles)
Early computer/tech (1970-1995, 8bit computers and gadgets, hints of internet and cellular phones, early game consoles)
Fantasy Hybrid (Some tech probably up to 8/16 bit computers but magic tends to take precedence, full metal alchemist comes to mind)
Modern day (2000-2019, Smart Phones, tablets, consoles, (no pandemic, no DEI) )
Sci-Fi (super future alien tech, nanobots and replicators and cyborgs, infinite energy)
Other (Unknown)

Sure if you wanted wartime you can probably pick any years and say World War 1/2, Vietnam war, Korean war, etc etc... but that's more historical books and less these ranges, and probably not as good for erotica unless you want forced/rape included.

So likely i'd define Contemporary as early computer to modern tech. Having someone logging into a BBS to write an email isn't too far off, and a lot of early erotica books were written in that time where it's not really all that different, you just aren't lugging a cell phone super computer (compared to 8bit machines) in your pocket and you aren't talking about the latest gaming consoles.

Actually I have read a great many pre 1950s books, and have been very impressed with some of them.
Some of Jules Verne, Mark Twain, I can't remember his name but the guy who wrote the Shadow Novels, no erotica though.
But those guys could also write well, just saying.
