Very nice ending to this season of Half Sisters. It's nice to see Nikkii with so much agency during the date. She looked for that kiss throughout the night, and when she realized Zack was not gonna make a move on her, she didn't shy away from taking action. She made it happen anyways. This is a very important moment for her character. If her first kiss hadn't been something voluntary, it would have given a the kiss a different meaning.
At first I thought the last panels didn't make much sense. Why would Nikkii feel ashamed of what she did when she sought out that moment for hours? However, I think that has an explanation. Nikkii up until to the kiss had been rationalizing her attraction towards Zack as part of their 'mission' to appease Hutchingson. Holding hands, making goo goo eyes, her smile, even the kiss... It was all meant to fool Hutchingson... Once the kiss happened, once she realized she actually had enjoyed that kiss, all the facade came down like a house of cards.
There are still many loose ends. How does Zack feel about their changing bond? It seems he's in an ackward position right now. Will Nikkii start dealing with her own sexuality and growing feminity or just regress to denial and fake/toxic masculinity like in the beginning of the series? Who did Nikkii see at the theatre? Davis? Her own dad? Hutchingson? It seems it has to be interpreted symbolically rather than literally that presence.
Btw, did Nikkii just shrink even more? She looked an inch shorter than Zack during the date, while wearing 2 inch boots... Zack is now clearly taller than her
