I am lookin for a story and author that I read a long while ago called Eros Ascendant. It was about an acheology dig where something was unearthed that changed the students and professor. I think it was from Yahoo Groups but I couldn't say for sure.

I still have the sequel that has a police department investigating characters from the first and ultimately falling to the same powers as the first one.
