i use waifu2x, but mostly for upscaling lower resolution text before passing it through OCR work since it's fast and does a decent job (
and other upscalers the results are more blurry), and is somewhat decent on anime/manga. For comics, realistic graphics, it doesn't look bad; But RealSR or (
more recently) UpScayl i've found to be preferred, at least for free options.
Though it seems others have already suggested that.
Waifu2x on realistic images tends to leave it looking like shiny plastic/leather, good for metal type of images, or when you want smooth leather and dehaired.
It barfs on me too, unless i specify a smaller window to look, default i see tends to be 300, but 96 works on a ti 1050. That or specify to use the CPU.
Here's the typical commandline i use.
Code:
upscayl-bin.exe -i input -o output -f webp -t 96 -z 4 -j 1:1:1
If it hasn't been done yet, i can do a pass on it. (
though glancing at the thread, it looks like maybe it's already had the waifu2x treatment on it...)
