This thread is primarily to identify and hopefully convert/fix some books that say they are epub or pdf files, but internally are nothing but sequential images. I've seen this quite a bit on Anne's Archive (and especially with certain authors), likely from screen-capping each page and slapping them into a epub/pdf and uploading it. This would result in what is a short 30-40 page story, to a 60Mb pdf/epub file.

A few instances of older books scanned and being OCR'd are a combination of automated OCR (usually with the internet archive stamp in it) while may have most of the OCR correct, is still a humongous size.

As an example, I've reduced the pages so the book is a mere 600k.... for 20 pages... (It was originally 14Mb, Some books hundreds of pages long... yeah will still push 10Mb even when compacted like this). But considering each page should be about 2k of actual content, this book/short should be ~200k.

I'd suggest if we find any that need to be worked on, we might do a request and drop them here. I have a script to reduce to the above, a 'reasonable' size but is really still far too big for it's contents; However proper OCR can make a much better epub with a bit of work, mostly finding where the OCR failed and fixing typos (which often is I, certain quotes, and sometimes lines of garbage when the OCR thinks it finds something, as well as occasionally unreadable corruption), and finally slapping it into Calibre. I'd guess you're putting 1-5 minutes per page of effort in if you decide to take up one of the books, skimming for errors or reading it and fixing it as you go.

I'd hope the fixed/finalized works can be added to the appropriate threads elsewhere.

I wonder if anyone understands what i was talking about. Anyways, Brandi Black is especially notable as having this problem. So i'll just put these all here.

These books are appended with _imgbook (so i can easily find them), but they've also been compacted to be smaller and have an ocr.zip which is the pages have been batch processed, but needs to be checked and cleaned up before release. If you don't feel like it, you can still read the books normally, but you can't scan for text or change page settings.

If you want to do the work but not finish, upload the updated ocr text and that can be converted.

As for Brandi Black, she tends to do fertile/pregnancy/impreg, cheating, not sure what else she does.

note: As the originals were depreciated i just removed them. See next couple posts for finished epubs. Left Come Inside (from like post #1) so you can still see what i'm talking about.

Next on the list i'll drop Bimbeau Neil whose books seem to be images; These aren't listed in the BDSM thread.

edit: Decided to put a master-list of books that need work; Again they are totally readable as-is, but i'd like to actually have proper html/txt and not pre-rendered images. If you post the completed work elsewhere then i can remove them from the master list, but this will help keep from uploading multiple times in this spot and wasting space.

Found and dumped a lot more OCR and scanned books that seem to originate from archive-org; Heavy authors including Penny Birch, Conway Joan, and Tan Cecilia. Those seem to be a bit more of a pain as they are all likely jepg2000 encoded, and OCR scanned but has it's own problems, in case anyone is interested.

Sounds interesting. I'm currently using Tesseract-OCR which not only is free but works incredibly well. Advanced PDF tools seems to work okay too, but not good for the way i do my bulk work.

But the problem is you still need to go over and find the errors and fix them, and add formatting usually custom (Dropcaps, itallics, bold, etc). I'm not satisfied with incomplete work, which is primarily what this thread is for. The imgbook stuff I've put up have the OCR pass already done; But it needs to be checked (and with little formatting and a number of the books being 20-30 pages, work progresses VERY fast). Once done put in a wrapper to an epub and poof! converted book.

Sure thing! It's on the top of my list now. That's afterall what i made this thread for :)

Yeah the text doesn't look that bad at all, and with illustrations all throughout will need to be cropped and cleaned up; I can totally work with this. Not sure if a couple pages will need rotation before OCR but i should totally be able to do this. Also at ~150 pages, i would wager at guestimation of 5min per page (at most, probably closer to 2 min per page) i'll probably get it done in 6-12 hours or so of work, or about 3-4 days of working on it off-and-on.

Alright, think i got that done and did it justice. Could make it smaller with the illustrations using tricks, but it's fine. It isn't necessarily much smaller but i certainly hope it's a lot cleaner. Tried to make the images transparent (so they'd fit on any page color scheme) but i think just black/white probably is a better choice. Or i could make the images larger and do transparency so it looks like they are more floaty and less square.

Replaced the cover (with a UK reprint?), upscaling and all it didn't look very good on it; And i'm not sure what font they used so i can't rebuild the text. But the fur didn't look very good.

Should cover it overall.
