[eswe] - The Story of Maeve
The gift of the fairies
For over 60 years, Maeve McDonnell has been offering special treats to the fantastic creatures, the fairy folk, every day at sunset: Bread, Cake and Wine! Even at the age of 16, she would light fires in the bushes for Samhain or Halloween and bake an unbelievably sweet pumpkin pie that tasted simply heavenly! Trick or treat was never an issue for Maeve. The fairy folk got what the fairy folk deserved. And so the flowers in Maeve's garden were always the most beautiful and the apples from her tree always the sweetest.
In Kilbrannish, County Wexford, she was known as "Crazy Maeve" - and rightly so! Maeve lived and loved only for the fairies and other mystical creatures, so her own life took a back seat. A romantic relationship or marriage? That was never an issue for her! And so the years passed. Maeve grew older and weaker. She felt her last winter approaching.
That year, for the first time in her life, she asked the fairy folk for a gift. On Halloween, Maeve's last, the fairies gave her something very special: the infinite lust of a lifetime and the love of the fairies.
