Are there any new works that combine text with illustrations? Or any authors in this style that you would recommend?
You might want to look at "Stories with Images" at Fictionmania. There are 8540 at today's count, some of them might be what you are looking for.

I second nicegent42. Lillian317537 on FM if you like longer stuff. Paige Turner is newer but has already done some great work.

FM is hard to search. One recent one I like is Chris. AI Art, not illustrations. But well done - they've got 2 stories: Deadly In Heels and the Gold Star Program.

Tried the Ai tool with summerhouse by fraylim, I have to say it's pretty accurate, as long as you add in the prompt something like : keep facial expression and image fidelity

I don't know why people are so negative about JSP's images, I think the illustrations on a book like My Brother My Mother My Doll were great.

I agree that Fraylim's illustrations are the best, they can be very inconsistent though, even in Blondie's Lost Year some of the illustrations were pretty bad. A lot of Fraylim's illustrations are traced from photos as well.

sometimes Grok gets it right... :D

I wouldn't presume that either of them retiring means the other retired too. They have collaborated on a number of projects in the past, but neither are exclusive.

With that said... KK disappeared kind of suddenly, taking down their Patreon only days after posting the last installment of the third "High Tops to High Heels" book. It was around the end of 2023, and I heard no news since. I have assumed that they have retired.

Fraylim is certainly still around, they did some illustrations for a Jenny North story in July of last year. Would highly recommend her stories to people on this thread btw.

Mockumentary

In a desperate bid to revive his flagging career, a young star on a sci-fi show concocts an elaborate publicity stunt to come out as transgender. But what happens when he becomes entangled in his web of lies?

Mockumentary: The Briar Patch

Family Therapy

A father and son in crisis reach out to an online therapist who, unbeknownst to them, is actually an artificial intelligence. But after the machine mistakenly deduces that one of them must be transgender--and bound by its programming to maintain its patients' privacy--it ends up feminizing both father and son. When the truth finally comes to light, will this bring the two of them closer together, or tear them hopelessly apart?

I don't know about KK, hopefully they return.

I messaged Fraylim back in 2021 and they said Blondie 3 was nearly done and supposed to come out that year, no idea what happened.

Family Therapy was a weirdly great story, much more original than most in the genre.

Rex, a college student, has a crush on one of the students in his study group, Alison. So when she asks him out for coffee, he sees a bright future of becoming her boyfriend. Unfortunately, Alison is not looking for a boyfriend. So Rex finds himself banished to the dreaded friend zone.

Still, he sees a way back. If he accepts her offer of friendship and hangs around with her, he can become her boyfriend as soon as she realizes what a great guy he is. Salon visits, dress shopping, shoe shopping. Rex and Alison are having a great time. What Rex doesn't know — and couldn't possibly understand — is that he's never going to find a way out of the friend zone and is falling deeper into it than any man ever has.
