TIPS

1.) For everyone posting if your wondering how people list all their files before they post it is very simple in Windows. You can list everything in a folder simply with using command prompt. The easiest and fastest way I use in all my newest threads is the quick cmd key. All you have to do is go to the folder all your files reside in. I keep them unfoldered for this reason till after I have posted or just a copy for posting. Since Win 7 you can now in the source path of the folder simply click on it and type cmd and enter.

Then type
dir /b > files.txt in the command prompt.

(You can name it whatever you want but files.txt is in my exclusion for another batch file i use to create folders and move files.)

Open files.txt All files and subfolders will be listed now. All you need to do is delete files.txt from the list itself and copy it to the thread your posting. Subfolders will be listed without an extension.

For Example from my Taylor Trait thread:

As You Wish_._ Collected Edition - Taylor Tait.epub
As You Wish_._ Collected Edition - Taylor Tait.jpg
As You Wish_._ Part 1_ Making a Sex Genie - Taylor Tait.epub
As You Wish_._ Part 1_ Making a Sex Genie - Taylor Tait.jpg
As You Wish_._ Part 2_ Taunting the Neighbor - Taylor Tait.epub
As You Wish_._ Part 2_ Taunting the Neighbor - Taylor Tait.jpg
As You Wish_._ Part 3_ Fantasy Turned Nightmare - Taylor Tait.epub
As You Wish_._ Part 3_ Fantasy Turned Nightmare - Taylor Tait.jpg
As You Wish_._ Part 4_ The Weekend Getaway - Taylor Tait.epub
As You Wish_._ Part 4_ The Weekend Getaway - Taylor Tait.jpg
As You Wish_._ Part 5_ Breaking the Spell - Taylor Tait.epub
As You Wish_._ Part 5_ Breaking the Spell - Taylor Tait.jpg
files.txt You delete this from the list.

2.) For files I am ready to post I 'save as Epub only in the same directory' in Calibre to a clean folder. It nicely gives you all the epubs selected and their covers in the same folder, just delete the annoying .opfs (You can Disable OPF Creation When Saving/Exporting Books. I may turn them off for awhile, they used to be more useful in older versions now they are redundant.)

3.) The other trick I learned is how to organize it all after. Once you have renamed everything to your liking and it is finalized to exactly what you want, I run a batch file. A base level of that batch is attached just unrar it and put a copy and run it (double click it) any folder you want to move/merge all files with the same name to a folder with the same name. I have more complicated batches I use but they are tailored for myself. Lastly delete the .bat file in your folder and your done.

Further tips for Organizing in a clean folder:

The best way to organize is make a new folder download everything in a thread moving it all to that folder. Clean it up to just the .txt, .epub and .pdf with no duplicates. Then add it to calibre in one attempt and then ignore all duplicates one by one checking to make sure they are the same author will tell you instantly if you have everything and what is new. Alternatively you can just add it all and then remove one by one each duplicate after filtering to the author and sorting by name check the page length (file size is not always a sign one version is more complete then the other). I then convert everything to .epub including reconverting .epub to .epub. That last step gives you a clean list of .epub and tells you if you have a faulty copy or a corrupt version that a duplicate can replace. My backups are all clean .epub. I keep the .pdfs siting in my calibre library unless its Artwork or Comics/Manga which will go in the backups as well. For .txt if I can find the cover I cover them and reconvert to .epub. The ones I cant find a cover I create my own for my own calibre library.

Something I've found adding duplicate files to calibre is that it doesn't always recognize the new file as a duplicate.

This is typically for two reasons.

First the author name in the metadata may be written as "last name, first name" in the input file, so it won't recognize it as the same.

Second, and the most common reason I believe, is that the title in the metadata may not match what is in the book already in your library, if you downloaded the metadata for the book using calibre.

For example, input files often include at the end of the title string "(series name and #)" and once you download the metadata using calibre, that string is typically removed.

5.)

Does anyone know a simple way to pull these back out of ecalibre because book directory by directory file pull is very annoying
For calibre saving after I recoverted .epub to .epub to check for errors, i create a clean new folder and I always select all the titles and do the dropdown on the save button: "Save only EPUB to a disk in a single folder" since i have .opf off. ... all it does is give the .epub and .jpg in one folder. Which I create my list from as well.

Turn Off .opf Generation on Save
  1. Open Calibre.
  2. Click Preferences (if not visible, click the arrow next to Preferences).
  3. Under the "Saving Books to Disk" section, click Saving books to disk.
  4. Uncheck "Save metadata in a separate OPF file".
  5. Click Apply. [1, 2, 3]
