It's a commission, so most likely the story is coming from the one who commissioned it. I, too, would have preferred more resistance, and even outrage by their mother, but it's like you said, with incest the simplicity with which these relationships start are to be expected. I'm actually quite fond of this, so I'm curious to see how the mother joins the fray.
